Consorzio Polo Tecnologico Magona (CPTM) was founded in 1997, creating a research centre of excellence in the ex-industrial Magona area in the city of Cecina (LI). The buildings and the scientific equipment were supplied by the municipalities of Cecina and Rosignano Marittimo, by the Province of Livorno, and by the University of Pisa. Since its foundation, together with these public bodies, eight private companies joined the consortium.
In the following years, along with the growth of CPTM, more and more private companies joined CPTM, up to the total number of twenty private partners, next to the four public founding members.
CPTM represents a meeting point between companies searching for new solutions and the applied research, result of the synergetic competencies gained by universities, engineering consulting companies, and manufacturers. Applications include chemical and material engineering, environmental protection, industrial safety, energy industry, renewable energy and green chemistry.
In 2002 CPTM obtained the ISO-9001 quality certification and became a laboratory registered by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR). Tha quality policy statement is downloadable here.
Since 2013, CPTM has the RINA certification for laboratory tests on materials.
CPTM hosts also a detached section of the student office of the University of Pisa.
